The Water Pump

Today we attempted to dismantle the water pump located in the tail section of the motor. We discovered several problems. The biggest being the complete destruction of the impeller. The second being the disintegration of the gasket. We also snapped three of the four stainless steel bolts that attached the upper section from the bottom section. This was very disappointing, but a fairly simple repair. Luckily Nissan sells a general water pump repair kits for our model, but much of the original parts are no longer manufactured.

I have our family's 21 cobia gulfstream in need of restoration. It's been an excellent solid boat. But it needs an overhaul and we are going to give it away. Rather than junk it I thought ya'll might be interested. We've used it for 28 years. There are a couple of pix on photobucket here http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp113/fishforbrains/102_5840.jpg, http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp113/fishforbrains/102_5843.jpg, http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp113/fishforbrains/102_5841.jpg, http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp113/fishforbrains/102_5842.jpg If this didn't work I'd be glad to email them. good luck,
Thanks

William - I'm loving the Tybee Boat Project - I am doing a similar project with my 79 McKee craft that I picked up for next to nothing this fall. I have put off the engine work thus far because I'm afraid of what I might find (Johnson v4 115hp). I have learned a heck of a lot so far about painting boats and doing work on a tight budget (all myself).

Keep us updated on the project! It is reassuring to know that someone else is in as deep as I am in a restoration project!!!

I should start the Mid-town Savannah Boat Project
